The Countdown is On

In less than two weeks, Lost Beasts will be available.  I know I’ve shown you the cover and mentioned I’m excited for all the things happening around the launch.  However, I’d like to share something important with this post specifically.

One thing I hear all the time and that I’m quite proud of is how great the covers of Beasts series look.  Part of the reason I take such pride in them is because of the hand I’ve had in helping design everything around my book.

Before you ask, I haven’t done any of the artwork personally.  I sketch a little to help get me in the beginner’s mind and work on things with skills I’m not the best at executing.  However, I do have an eye toward what I want and the messages I manage to convey with my covers.

First, this arrived recently.

I unboxed the first one and looked upon the treasure before me.  For the record, I also got my other books too because what sort of author would I be without having more than my share of all my books.  The cover itself stands out due to the color.  The gradients were important because of narrative events occurring in the story.

I want you to compare the covers of Big Beasts and Lost Beasts because I strived to do something special.

I told the publisher I was looking for there to be echoes between the two covers.  The tree is present on both.  We have our main character, Kylie, silhouetted before the tree.  And we also have the eyes of our big beasts peering out from behind the tree.

These seem like small things, and maybe even the sorts of things most people would not think about or consider.  Because it is my story, I take the time to pay attention to such things and make sure they’re in there for me.  After all, staring at something interesting for hours makes all the difference in the world.

I hope you enjoyed this little peek into things.  Please don’t hesitate to comment and ask questions if you have any.  Also, be ready for the appearance of Lost Beasts.  It arrives Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Enjoy the Journey.  We’re all on it together.
